A very telling picture

I have to admit, for the most part, the speech was well written. I would be curious to know who the author is; but, there is a problem with Obama being the one to deliver it, and that is: it draws such a stark and opposite picture from that of his initial reaction and comments on this horrible and, obviously, avoidable act of terrorism (a word completely omitted from the entire speech.)

Commentary on Obama’s speech has already been done by more than enough pundits, pro and con. So, what I do want to point out is what the above photograph of Obama shows. OK, look at the photo again. This time look closely. Do you see something a little strange? Does something stand out that maybe causes you to wonder…exactly, why is this necessary? No? OK…body armor!

I looked through hundreds of photos of Presidents Clinton and George W. Bush, while at military bases, and I couldn’t find anything like what I see in this picture. My first reaction (to the picture of Obama) was, “what the hell?” And, being me, more questions started popping into my mind. None of them very reassuring.

Since it probably makes more sense to not make a lot of sense, I’ll just tell it the way I thought it. After the original irony of the situation wore off, I started thinking: Does this jerk not even trust the troops he is supposed to be commanding? Does he think there may be more terrorists on that base and is not saying anything about it? He flew into a U.S. military base on “his aircraft” to do a memorial in front of (I would think) an already scrutinized audience. WTF? This has got to be because he knows how thoroughly hated he is, for what he’s doing to this country. Does he think he is so freaking important to this world that he needs to wear body armor on a U.S. military base? Jeez, are the protectors of our freedom in this much trouble?

The President himself told us that this was just an isolated instance of someone snapping from the stress. (Of  what? The guy hadn’t even been deployed yet.) So, did Obama lie? That wouldn’t be new; but, the implications here are difficult to imagine.

I would love to have someone show me where it is common for presidents to wear body armor while visiting troops on our own bases. Maybe I couldn’t find any information on this because I’m really bad at doing searches; but, I doubt it.

Since Obama feels it is necessary to wear armor on our military base to protect himself, our leader, then maybe the military should start providing armor for the men and women that protect us.
